Users upgrading from a version of Open Dental previsous to 4.0 should install the new .Net 2.0 framework first. This will prepare your computer to be able to run Open Dental version 4.0. Installing the downloads on this page does not alter or affect any previous version of Open Dental. You should not uninstall any previous versions of the .NET framework, since they are needed to run older versions of Open Dental.

We apologize that this process is a little bit complicated. This is how Microsoft decided to do it. The instructions below do not apply to Windows 98/Me. Also, Vista computers will already come preloaded, so none of this is necessary.

Step One: Install the Windows Installer 3.1: WindowsInstaller31.exe

Step Two: Install the .NET framework version 2.0.

Your computer will now be ready for Open Dental 4.0. That upgrade process should be just like any other upgrade.
