Edit Lab Case

Create a new lab case using the LabCase button in the toolbar at the top of the Chart module.

Lab cases may also be created from within the Appointment Edit window, usually as part of setting up the Planned Appointment, but also possibly from within a regular appointment.

The boxes at the top labeled Appointment and Planned Appt show which appointments this lab case is attached to.  It can be attached to, at most, one of each kind.  The Detach buttons let you detach the lab case without deleting it.

In the list of Labs, select the dental Laboratory to which this lab case will be sent.  When you select the lab, the list called Set Due Date will be filled automatically with turnaround times as explained on the Laboratory page.  Clicking on an item in this list will automatically calculated the due date for you, skipping holidays and weekends, but otherwise not taking into account the provider schedule.  As explained in the Schedule section, a holiday does not simply indicate that the dental office is closed, but also indicates that the lab is probably closed as well. After you click the turnaround time, it will not stay highlighted.  It is not the purpose of this list to track what kind of lab case it is.  The only purpose is to generate the due date, so it will not remain highlighted.  After the due date is generated, you can refine it by changing the date and time if you wish.

The instructions box will contain all necessary instructions, although this is somewhat optional, since there is not yet a printing feature to generate a paper version of the lab slip to be sent along with the case.

The tracking dates and times at the upper right are usually created by users clicking one of the various Now buttons throughout the progress of the lab case.
Created: When the lab case was created.
Sent: When the case was finished being packaged and was set out to be picked up. It might not have actually been picked up until hours later.
Received: When the lab case was processed by the office staff as having come back from the lab.  The box does not need to be opened.
Quality Checked: The box has been opened. The case appears to be ready to deliver to the patient. The staff has performed whatever quality checks are needed, including checking contacts, appearance, etc.

Lab Cases are tracked using the Lab Cases window.
