Data Paths In the Main Menu, select Setup | Data Paths to bring up the following window:
A to Z images folder. This is the folder that contains the 26 folders labeled A through Z. It might also contain some ClaimForm images and a few other folders. Most users will use the default radio button at the top, "Store images and documents on a local or network folder". When you are done, click OK. If you do not enter a valid path, you will not be allowed to continue. Troubleshooting: If this window comes up repeatedly whenever you start the program, then you have not configured the path correctly. It will only come up if the path you have given is invalid. For example, if you have specified "Z:\OpenDentImages\", that might be valid from one computer, but is it valid for ALL computers ALL the time? A mapped network drive such as "Z" or "X" or "F" can be a source of problems. Mapped drives are not recommended because they must be set up on each computer, and then computers sometimes fail to properly remap the drive on startup. Instead use a path that starts with \\SERVER\ or similar. If you are using Open Dental on multiple computers, you will need to share the C:\OpenDentImages folder. Right click on OpenDentImages and select Sharing and Security...
Make sure both boxes are checked as shown above. You might also need to change the user permissions on the folder to allow "Everyone" full control of the folder. Then, the path the the main window above would be \\server\OpenDentImages\, assuming the name of your server is 'server'.
