Procedure Codes

In the Main Menu, click on Lists | Procedure Codes.

This same window is used sometimes when Entering Treatment , especially treatment that is rarely used and does not have its own Procedure Button.

If some of the buttons at the bottom are not showing on your computer, then you need to change the security settings for the current user. Go to Security, and make sure the current user has permission for Main Menu-Setup functions.

You would usually pick a category from the list on the left to only show procedures from that category. But you can also search by abbreviation, description, or code. If you are searching by description or code, remember to highlight all categories, or you might not find the procedure you are searching for. Some categories might be hidden, and you can check the box at the bottom to also view those categories. The Edit Categories button will take you to the Definitions section where you can add, hide, or rearrange your categories.

The fees that show in the list will depend on which fee schedule you have selected in the list at the right. The Edit Names button will take you to the fee schedule category in Definitions. See the Fee Schedule Tools page for information on how to use the Tools button at the right.

Double click on an existing fee to change it.

Alternatively, you could Edit the Procedure Code and change the fee from within that window. To edit a procedure code, double click on a row in any column except the fee column.

Buttons at Lower Left

Users in foreign Countries might need to use the New Codes tool to enter their procedure codes.

Import and Export of procedure codes uses an XML format.  Please note that it would be a violation of the copyright to share the ADA procedure codes with another office.  But many other types of codes can be imported and exported.  Only the codes currently showing in the grid will be exported.  This gives you the option to just export a few codes rather than all codes.  This is also very useful in foreign countries.

The Tools button is used after a user upgrades from the Trial version to the full version of Open Dental.  The tools help clear out the dummy codes and get the database to a more functional state with minimal setup.
